South Wonston Village Hall which can be found in Downs Road (SO21 3HH) had been the centre of village life some time before the present one was built in 1985. Over the last ten years the Management Committee has raised over £20K to improve the facilities. The new kitchen has hatch doors that can serve directly into both rooms available for letting. The Downs Room at the rear of the building can accommodate around 25 people and is popular for small groups such as the Book Club and craft classes. The Main Hall can seat over 100 people and attracts a wide variety clubs and classes from Cubs, Table Tennis and Bridge to fitness groups, the W I, a Gardening Club and a thriving Senior Club. They all meet on a regular basis.

In addition the Hall is a very popular venue for single events such as children's parties and recently for club dinners using outside caterers. Other events include Quiz Nights, Dances, Exhibitions, and Public Meetings for which the Hall is particularly well-equipped with both hand held and clip-on microphones, facilities for power point presentations and the showing of films. The Hall is also the venue for the showing of recently released films on the third Saturday of the month.

The Village Hall is a charity and is run entirely by volunteers. The Management Committee/Trustees consists of representatives of the voluntary groups using the Hall and of independent village groups such as the Parish Council and the Church and some co-opted members in addition. The Hall is completely accessible for wheelchairs and at the time of writing (2015) the Committee is in the process of creating a toilet for the disabled. The hire charges for 2015 range from £3.80 an hour for the Downs Room through to £18.00 an hour for Social Activities in the Hall. All the kitchen facilities are included in these charges, but the use of the film equipment is extra.
